Mueller's Tri Valley ATA in Pleasanton was excited for the participation of our students at Lansing's tournament in Santa Rosa on July 8th. All of our students came home with medals, placing in forms, weapons, sparring & combat sparring. Mr. Alex Brooke, reining 2016 California State Champion in Creative Weapons, also placed 3rd in Creative weapons! It is always an amazing experience to see the Songahm Taekwondo family gather from all over California & even parts of Nevada to support one another in their goals to have fun, do their best & make new friends. Ms. Mullins had the honor of making a friend of a 5 year old Leadership student- Ms. Lila helped her stretch & prepare for competition. We all look forward to supporting Mr. Cancino in Reno, NV on Saturday September 9th. This will be an other great opportunity to come together as a Taekwondo family & for some of us, see new places. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Open Floor Time is such a great opportunity for students to practice & grow in their Taekwondo. Last Friday we had a fantastic turnout, from Beginners to sparring practice. We look forward to students continuing their independent training by joining us every Friday from 4:15-6:15. Instructors are available to answer questions, give clarifications, and do some of their own training. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Friday!
Last Friday 2 of our students cashed in their "Taekwondo Bucks" for a pizza party with 8 of their friends. At Mueller's Tri Valley ATA Black Belt Academy students work towards goals to achieve Taekwondo Bucks. Bucks can be used for items in the Pro Shop, coupons for our friends, free classes, pizza parties...and much more. We believe in teaching students about working hard to earn the things you want. Braedyn Taft & Dylan Ogle invited 16 friends & family members to have an introduction to TKD, eat some pizza & participate in fun activities. We also offer birthday parties in the same nature. Feel free to contact Sue Mueller to book your pizza party time! ( sue @pleasantonatakarate.com / 925-519-0793-phone or text).
Last night we addressed the important question- " how do I use my Taekwondo?". Many new students get excited by the power they are learning & will have. as a martial artist. Here at Mueller's Tri Valley ATA we engage in "matt chats" with all of our students. During this time all students are invited to share stories of the best ways to use Black Belt knowledge. Current students take the opportunity to share stories on examples of times they have had the opportunity to use their TKD knowledge. Songahm Taekwondo takes a great deal of pride in training our students both physically & mentally. We work to make all of our students understand that self control & discipline are some of the most important skills to learn. Matt chats may also include discussion on Bully Prevention. Again, students are encouraged to share stories of a time they may have been made to feel uncomfortable, how they dealt with it & if they could have dealt with it differently. As an adult, parent & instructor I am excited & grateful to see the students share their stories & discuss the best way to make it turn out better next time!
Attitude is the Life Skill word for June! We look forward to seeing the students' posters on what " Attitude" means to them. Every month students are presented with the Life Skill word for that month. They are encouraged to create a poster discussing how this Life Skill impacts on their lives. Parents have commented on how much they enjoy conversations with their children- as they work to understand things like Attitude, Perseverance, Goals...to name a few. Every class at Mueller's Tri Valley ATA students will " bow in" and "bow out" to the Life Skill "saying" of the month. At the beginning of the month we give examples & discuss- this month it will be ATTITUDE! Learning about Black Belt Attitude is an important overall skill that is taught & focused upon. The most important thing to bring to every testing is " BLACK BELT ATTITUDE" !

This week, at Mueller's Tri Valley ATA- Pleasanton, is all about testing prep! Each class has been packed with students excited to achieve all 3 Black stripes on their belt & receive permission to test for their next rank! Feel free to stop in next Thursday May 18th, from 6-8:30 PM to watch our students advance to their next rank! Testing, also referred to as graduation, allows students the opportunity to demonstrate all the new things they have learned this session. When a Color Belt student receives all 3 Black stripes, they have achieved their next rank. On testing night, they will receive their next belt after demonstrating their knowledge & , most importantly, their discipline & listening skills ( also known as Black Belt Attitude! ). Pictured below you can see the group from our last graduation- I am so proud of how hard they work!

Fun was had by all last Friday, when we held our Parent's Night Off ( PNO). The parents of 14 kids took the opportunity to have some time to themselves while their kids hung out in an active, fun, safe environment! The kids & ourselves had a blast viewing Moana , eating a bunch of Little Caesar's pizza, attempting to make unicorn glitter slime, and playing bean bag dodge ball, night at the museum, and many other active games. Although we were unsuccessful with making our glitter slime, it was a great experience trying to figure it out ( science through our Taekwondo night out). This time we even had the privilege of entertaining & enjoying a small group of teens! Fun was definitely had by all! We look forward to even more attendance at our next PNO- keep an eye on our website & at our Facebook page to find the next date!
